AMAA is class one accredited to inspect all items associated with mass timber structures. Let us ensure that your projects are code-compliant.

As of June 2024, Section BC 602.4 of the NYC Buildings code has changed regarding mass timber construction.

Mass timber must be filed as type IV construction to provide a greater degree of safety in relation to relatively new materials and construction methods. Concealed spaces (defined as "enclosed spaces within partitions, walls, floors, roofs, stairs, furring, pipe chases, and column enclosures and other similar spaces") have new regulations that determine their path to compliance. Only interior walls and partitions with more than 1 hour of fire-resistance rating or heavy timber complying with Section 2304.11.2.2 shall be permitted.

Read more details about the code updates in the NYC Buildings Bulletin document.
